Haiku

Nure-ashi de suzume no ariku rôka kana

(Masaoka Shiki)

English translation:

"The sparrow hops
Along the veranda,
With wet feet."

R.H. Blyth says of it, “This might be taken as a model for all haiku.  It is poetical and yet extremely matter-of-fact.” (Haiku, Vol II, Spring, pg. 234)
